EDIT March 2017 – PLEASE WATCH THIS VIDEO TO SEE WHY I AM NOW BOYCOTTING MODCLOTH – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQ-w2a7gaRE

Hello my lovelies!

This year, I decided to take advantage of Cyber Monday and try a new fashion/home/clothing online store that I have been eyeing for the past couple of months – ModCloth! The site was having a 25% off sale so I figured it was a good time to try it out and, of course,  do a ModCloth Haul for you!

ModCloth specializes in vintage and retro inspired clothing and home decor, but what makes it really stand out is its relationship with its customers and the ModCloth Community. Not only does the company encourage users to post reviews and pictures of themselves with the items they purchased, but they actually provide links to the pictures on the website so you can see what the clothing looks like on real women! It also has options to “be the buyer” or vote back “out of stock” items which allows customers to have a say in the company’s inventory.

I can’t deny, however, that a big part of the appeal is also their huge assortment of gorgeous dresses and really cute items. Some of the clothing is a little pricey (especially the evening dresses), but they are really unique designs that you don’t really see anywhere else. I was so excited to make my first purchase and picked some of my favourite products on the site that were within my budget (and that I actually kind of needed!).

Cool City Livin’ Coat – Now on sale for 50% Off!

Original Price: $79.99     Size: Large coat

I absolutely adore this coat! I was looking for a new semi-formal winter coat that was more dressy than my big parka and I was so excited to get something from ModCloth ! They have so many cute coats in stock, I actually had a bit of a hard time deciding. I went with the Cool City Livin’ Coat because I like the fact that it has a high collar with a removable hood, which gives me some flexibility in how I can wear it. I also absolutely love the colour of the fabric – a grey/white/black mix that goes with a ton of different outfits!  I was a little nervous buying a higher-ticket item like a coat online, just in case it didn’t fit but the size charts and detailed customer reviews really helped! I decided to go with a Large because a lot of women had commented that the arms ran a little small – I wanted to make sure that I had room to wear a sweater underneath without being uncomfortable. I am glad that I did because the large fits perfectly and the arms/chest are actually a little snug! Needless to say – I am very happy with this purchase! Its my new favourite winter coat.

If It’s Not Baroque Table Runner

Original Price: $17.99P1010614

I have been looking for a table runner for a while now to finish off the centerpiece of our dining room table and as soon as I saw this, I knew it would be perfect. I absolutely love the lace detailing and I really like that you can see the colour of the wood through the fabric, which adds a certain subtlety to the piece. Since it is a very simple colour and design, I will be able to use it in combination with many different decorations and holiday themes! When it arrived, it was slightly shorter than I expected (I thought it would run about 3/4 of the table length, but it really is only about 2/3). At first I thought this would bother me, but the longer we have it the more I realize this length actually makes more sense – the runner is short enough that it doesn’t actually overlap into the place settings of the two people sitting at either end. I am definitely happy with this purchase!

Check me Out Library Kit P1010666

Original Price: $14.99

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my mum (so I told her she isn’t allowed to read or look at this blog post until after December 25th hehe!). It is a little personal library kit based on the paper card, sleeve, and stamp system of years gone by! It comes with all the tools necessary to track who is borrowing your books and when they are “due” back by! My mum is a 5th grade teacher who has an abundance of books, so I thought that this would be a really cute way that she can work with the kids and keep track of the books that are being lent out! Plus – my dad told me that at one point when my mum was younger, she wanted to be a librarian so it seems like a perfect fit. I am really excited to give her this gift and really hope that she likes it! 🙂

Clean of the World Soap Dish – Now on sale for 50% Off!

Original Price: $17.99P1010620

This is by far my favourite item from this haul. One of the downsides (if you can call it that) of being a green beauty user is that you get gifted a lot of soap bars. I think this is because natural soap is relatively easy to find and safe to give to someone like me who is really picky about ingredients. We didn’t have a real soap dish though, so a lot of the bars were just sitting unused! I was so happy to stumble across this gem because it is totally my style and fits perfectly with the image I had in my head of what I wanted. I was really pleasantly surprised by the quality of the item – it is heavy ceramic and real brass edging/detailing.  Plus, now that it is 50% off, it is an absolute steal!

Overall Review of ModCloth

I was really happy with my first ModCloth purchase. They have absolutely amazing customer service. There was a problem with the site when I first placed my order and I had to call in to speak with an agent to make sure it went through. I wasn’t waiting long and the woman I spoke to was incredibly friendly.  This week, when I saw the items had gone on sale, I used their online “chat” option to speak with a customer service rep about getting a price match (I couldn’t unfortunately – their policy is only for 7 days after your purchase 🙁 ).  It was so easy to get help and to reach a real person.

The only negative aspect of the experience was the cost of shipping and delivery. It was a $30 flat rate for international shipping, which was fine for me since I was saving around $35 off my purchase from the 25% off sale. It did warn me before I confirmed my order that I would be responsible for any customs fees or costs of delivery – which I thought was fine and chose to accept. The cost of delivery was another $25.95, which brought my purchase total to just over $150 total. So, with everything combined, I paid a lot closer to full price for these items. I still think these items are worth it, but it definitely means I won’t be making any casual purchases in the future from ModCloth. I think I will save it for big ticket items or wait to only make larger, multi-item purchases in order to make the shipping/delivery costs worth it. It is definitely be more affordable if you are in the United States because there is free shipping on orders of $50 or more. One of the unfortunate perks of living in Canada – more expensive shopping! 😛

Have you ever bought anything from ModCloth? If so, I would love to hear what you got and what you think of the site!

I have another big haul that I will be posting soon from YesWellness.com – so make sure to stay tuned!

See you all next week!
