Instead of doing an empties video this month, I decided to do a blog post instead! These are all the products I used up in May and June. I have a whole bunch more empties from March and April that I haven’t shown you yet, but I left the bag in Kitchener when I came back to Ottawa so I will make sure to add those in a future post. I separated everything into five product categories: Natural Supplements, Makeup, Hair, Facial Skincare and Body Care. Here we go!
Vega Protein & Greens Vanilla Powder – I bought this powder on one of my favourite online Canadian health & nutrition sites YesWellness.ca! I love this powder and have since repurchased it in the Chocolate flavour – both of which taste awesome. It is absolutely packed with good stuff without any of the bad: 20 grams of complete plant-based protein, 2 servings of greens, no added sugar, non-GMO, Gluten/Soy/Dairy free! I use it in my smoothies most mornings and find it really easy to digest.
AOR Green Coffee Bean Extract – I also bought this from YesWellness.ca. You all know I am a huge fan of green coffee beans. After trying out some of the supplement pills from Nature’s Dynamics a few months ago, I was hooked. It is a great way to increase your focus and have some extra energy without the side effects of coffee. I really wasn’t impressed with this particular brand, however, and found it didn’t have as much of a noticeable impact as the ones from Nature’s Dynamics. I will not be repurchasing!
Progressive HCP 30 Probiotics – When you have IBS, probiotics are a must-have supplement. I have had good results with this particular brand and have since repurchased! I can feel a difference when I take them; they help with bloating and ease digestion troubles.
100% Pure Black Tea Mascara – This is by far my favourite natural mascara – it adds length, volume, and is jet black (just how I like it!). I feature it on my Top Products page and have already repurchased another one to replace this empty! I definitely recommend it!
Lotus Wei Quiet Mind Mist – I got this sample in a Saffron Rouge box a long time ago. I would use a few sprays of this mist on my pillow before bedtime. I did find that it worked – it instilled a sense of calm and quiet which really helped me de-stress and have a good night’s sleep. However, with a price tag of $40 for a full size bottle, I don’t think I will repurchase unless I am looking to spoil myself or going through a rough patch where I thought this was really needed!
Love & Toast Honey Coconut Perfume – I stumbled across this brand at a local Ottawa shop called Dream Weaver and featured it in a haul post a little while back. I am in love with this perfume! In addition to smelling absolutely amazing, this brand uses natural and organic ingredients, is cruelty-free, and donates a portion of every sale to Regional Affiliates of Girls, Inc. that works to help inspire young women to be smart, strong and bold! I have already bought a full size bottle and it has become my go-to scent!
bareMinerals Matte Foundation – I got this little sample from Sephora over a year ago and kept it in my purse for little touch ups during the day. While I was a big fan of bareMinerals foundations for a long time, I have since found a product I like even more (The All Natural Face Foundation Powder) so I will not be repurchasing!
Natural Hair Care
Organic Matter Damage Level 1 Shampoo & Conditioner – I was given these sample bottles during my visit to Restore and Replenish Spa in Mississauga! Both products seemed to work well, however I can’t give them a proper review because the bottles do not have an ingredient list on them, and the company’s website doesn’t list the ingredients either! You all know this is a big “no-no” in my books, so I will not be repurchasing until I can find out more information.
Earth to Body Apple Cider Vinegar Hair Rinse – I will be posting a full video first impression review of this hair rinse along with the Earth to Body Shampoo Bar soon! This hair rinse is a replacement for traditional conditioner and works to restore the pH balance in your hair. Overall, I was really impressed with how well it worked – especially because my hair tends to be coarse and dry which made me very nervous to give up my conditioner! While I doubt this will become part of my daily shower routine moving forward (I did find it gave me a little bit of dandruff after a few weeks of use), it is something I could see myself buying and using for a few weeks each year to help rejuvenate my hair and do a bit of a “cleanse”. I would definitely recommend this to people who struggle with oily hair or who need more volume, though. It is so light and does not weigh your hair down at all! Check back soon to see the full video!
The All Natural Face Magical Mane Tamer Leave In Conditioner – I got this bottle in a TANF monthly subscription box, and I wasn’t that impressed. You could very easily use too much, which would leave my hair feeling greasy and weighed down. I also didn’t find it to have any obvious benefits – my hair didn’t feel any softer or more conditioned, and it didn’t help with frizz at all. I just read on the website though that the owner of TANF uses it on dry hair, and I only ever used it on wet. Please leave a comment down below if you have tried it on dry hair and had better results!
One Love Organics Easy Does It Cleanser – I really liked this cleanser because it was incredibly gentle and multi-purpose – it can be used anywhere you need soap! I would definitely buy this product again. I do want to note though, that it does contain Japanese Honeysuckle extract if that is something that you are trying to avoid (a bit of a controversial ingredient!).
Sante Naturkosmetik Organic Schisandra Facial Tonic – Unfortunately, this product expired before I got a chance to use it all – but I did try it for a few weeks and it seemed to work well! A very gentle toner that didn’t dry out my skin. However, it does have a few fragrance/masking ingredients that I am not a fan of: linalool and benzyl salicylate. It also lists Parfum on the label but specifies that it is derived from essential oils, so the other ingredients may be as well but I have to contact the company to find out more information. I will not be repurchasing again until I can confirm!
One Love Organics Skin Saviour Waterless Beauty Balm – Awesome product. This balm is incredibly versatile and multi-use: it can be used as a serum, moisturizer, or cleanser! I really liked it and this mini size was great for travel or when you just want to throw one product in your bag. The only thing I don’t like? The price tag! At $68 for a full size bottle, I doubt I will be repurchasing it again unless I am really treating myself. One instance where you truly do get what you pay for though! Great ingredients and works really well.
Sante Naturkosmetik Coconut Dream Body Lotion – Unfortunately, I found out after finishing this product that it has since been discontinued by the company which is too bad because I really liked it! It had an awesome beach-like smell and absorbed into my skin quickly, leaving it soft for hours. The other bad news is that the nice smell comes from a longer list of fragrance/masking ingredients: linalool, geranoil, limonene, citral, and coumarin. Similar to the Sante Toner, these may be derived from essential oils but I will not be repurchasing anything from this company until I can find out more information! *Sigh* – It can be so frustrating when products you like make you work hard to find out if they are safe!
Beauty Barlour Whipped Body Butter – The label doesn’t say exactly which scent of body butter this is, but based on the company’s website it doesn’t matter too much because they all contain awesome, really high quality natural ingredients. I am a HUGE fan of whipped body butters and this one did not disappoint. It felt so luxurious on my skin and left it feeling soft all day long. I will definitely be repurchasing in the future!
Gourmet Body Treats Spiced Chocolate Bath Salts – This was a limited edition product that came in one of my GBT Beauty Boxes. These salts smelled amazing and were a lot of fun to use in the bath (even though they made me hungry every time). Another win from GBT! 🙂
Mahalo Body Balm – I got this sample as part of the Limited Edition Think Dirty Valentine’s Day Beauty Box. I loved the packaging that this product comes in (made from eco-friendly bamboo), it has amazing ingredients, and was a great addition to my moisturizing/skincare routine. Unfortunately at a whopping $72 price tag for a 50ml bottle, I will definitely not be repurchasing. I liked it, but I can’t justify spending that much on a body balm!
That is it for my empties this month! Have you tried any of these products? I would also love to know if you prefer empties videos or blog posts like this one!
I will see you all again soon!
