Earlier this month, a friend of mine introduced me to SAABOON – an all natural vegan soap boutique that sells and makes its products in Ottawa, Ontario. You all know how much I love to support local, Canadian brands so I was very excited to try out some of their products and share my thoughts with you! I was lucky enough to try out four of their products: two soaps, a facial oil and a lip balm. While they were provided to me as complimentary samples, I was not paid to do this review and all of the opinions about the products are my own.
The ingredients of this soap are awesome: 6 different oils (coconut, olive, avocado, castor, ricebran, and lavendar) and french green clay. The scent is very subtle and mild, which will make it a great choice for those with scent sensitivities. It is also just very… simple. Nothing fancy, nothing over the top. No artificial dyes, fragrances, or unneccessary ingredients. It is very gentle and left my skin feeling very clean, but also had a bit of a drying effect (like a traditional soap-clean). For this reason, it is probably not something I could see myself purchasing again in the future. I am very picky with my soaps! 😛
Lately, I have been mixing serums or facial oils in with my facial moisturizer to help my poor dry skin face the cold winter air! This facial oil was no exception. It is a very light oil with a surprising coffee scent – which has been a very nice addition to my morning routine. The ingredients are awesome: a combination of 6 different types of oils including argan, jojoba and rosehip. There is nothing else added – no fillers, no artificial fragrances or dyes, no preservatives. Just awesome oils that your skin is going to love. My preference in the winter is for thicker, more substantial oils and this one still left my skin feeling a little dry so I think it is better suited for those with oily skin or for use in the warmer, summer months.
Nude Lip Balm
I was incredibly impressed with this lip balm! It is so soft and glides on super smooth. It is unscented and unflavoured, so it is gentle and great for people with sensitivities. It left my lips feeling incredibly soft, moisturized and protected. Once again, it has a great list of ingredients consisting of avocado and cocoa butter, castor oil and candelila wax. So simple and easy to understand and feel good about. It is what I love to see in the products I use! I definitely would repurchase this again in the future.
Once again, the list of ingredients for this soap is awesome. I sound like a broken record! It uses coconut, olive, avocado, castor, ricebran, and eucalyptus oils, as well as himalayan pink salt (there are actual chunks of it along the top!) and bamboo activated charcoal. The only scent it has is a light salt odour. It is very gentle to use and was deliciously smooth against my skin. However, himalayan salt products can be a little intense for us sensitive-skined folk. I did notice a slight drying effect after the first use, but nothing too drastic. I have only been using it for a few days, but will see how it goes after a few weeks of use!
My Overall Thoughts
I love that this brand prides itself on being very gender neutral and scent free, which ensures its products are very accessible to anyone – including those with scent sensitivities. The ingredients they use are so simple and pure. I love that the labels are transparent, easy to read and understand. You absolutely know not only what is inside your product, but exactly where it is made since it is made by hand in Ottawa. While not all of the products made me fall head over heels, I am still looking forward to trying more from this brand and will definitely recommend it as one you should look into. It gets my two thumbs up!
If you are in the Ottawa area, they also just opened up their first brick and mortar store at 595 Gladstone Avenue. This means you can visit and try out all their products for yourself!
Have you ever tried SAABOON products? If so, I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.

I will see you all again soon!
